What the heck is this primal stuff? Is Julie turning into a cavewoman?
Not at all! Diana Hsieh from Modern Paleo has a simple definition that I think explains it really well:
A “paleo” (or “primal”) approach to health uses the evolutionary history of homo sapiens, plus the best of modern science, as a broad framework for guiding daily choices about diet, fitness, medicine, and supplementation. The core of paleo is the diet: it eschews grains, sugars, and modern vegetable oils in favor of high-quality meat, fish, eggs, and vegetables.
And that’s about it in nutshell. Lots of people have done a far better job than I could do of explaining the various aspects of paleo living, though I’ll share my own insights as time goes on. To start with here is an awesome page full of great links put together by a workout buddy of mine from Flatirons Crossfit over at Knitfit. She conducted a Paleo study on folks from the gym last year that you can read about here.
